The Monday Mess

This Monday I want to share a little fun piece of my history that not many know…. You might picture a poker group as a bunch of serious older men smoking cigars in a dark room for some real cash… but I have a different way of looking at it. My mom and a group of her close friends play penny poker on Saturday nights and since middle school, I have been part of their loud gambling fun. Now, I obviously have a harder time making it to the Saturday night games considering I live 4 hours away BUT it just makes the games we do get together more special.

This Saturday, the planets aligned and I was able to join them for the first time in months. I can’t say how special it was to see the poker ladies again. We laughed and joked and ranted and cursed our terrible hands! We shared food and drinks and dessert. We threw cards and dice and poker chips. We gave long hugs…

As we were rolling through cards and poker chips, they mentioned that I should start a poker club down in Blacksburg. The truth is IT’S NOT ABOUT THE POKER. These women helped me grow, teaching me life lessons that others would not have touched.  We shared uninhibited fun and they taught me to be courageous about enjoying life... Oh and not to trust men. But don’t worry, they have given Will their approval!!

I could never forget the fun we have and I could never remember a specific hand of cards. Again, its not about the poker...
