A hard restart

Let me just say this post is a lot less about having something important to say and a lot more about needing a minute to let "it" out. By "it" I mean stress, steam, what ever you call that feeling that makes you desire 5pm on a Friday. We often brush off how stressful it can be starting a small business, working full time, and keeping up day to day responsibilities. Friends, there are days when we are on cloud nine and make it look easy. We even get to brush a little dust off our shoulder. But friends, there are days like today where we see a mountain of to-dos and slump in our seats, rub our foreheads, and can't sort it out. Together, we do our best to focus on all the positives, because after all, we love our jobs, we LOVE our business, and we love our volunteer work. However, there often comes a moment where we need a hard restart. And sometimes that moment comes at inconvenient times, before the weekends. So cheers to this Thursday. We can't skip work, we can't forget our business, we can't ignore our responsibilities BUT we can make a hard restart.

What do I mean by a hard restart? Well, you know those times where you decide to do EVERYTHING on your laptop all at once? You know, that time you started clicking around like a mad person until it it froze up on you? What did you do next? Did you keep clicking around? Yes, yes, I'm the worst offender of this. Cross your fingers? Sure, always a reasonable effort. Wait a minute? Sometimes I can manage this. Hold down the power button and wait for the computer to shut off? Yup, that's it, the hard restart. When we find ourselves on days like today we power off all the little demands and start "rebooting" these tasks one by one, starting with the most important, not the most stressful. I agree that this is an odd metaphor, but it helps us get things done when we are feeling the pressure.
